T^T They had an opening man I had to join, and I couldn't get all my stuff done before so I HAD TO GET IT DONE BEFORE CLOSING. MEET THORN! I've never done thi detailed of clothing but I a extremly happy with it. The colors were hard to choose and didn't kn if I put too much red...I hope not. ALL IN THE NAME OF . Thorn is a Starseed, a human who does not age past the age of 18 because of her Awakening or DNA activation and pyrokinetic ability. Starseeds are humans whose DNA has mutated to having 12 strands instead of two, many consider these humans as abominations while other see this as the first step to humanity and Terranova’s ascension. Once they awaken they stop aging. They live two times longer than the average human but they can also be killed; and are gifted with a wide range of psychic abilities.

Starseeds generally don’t hold much fat because of the DNA change resulting in more muscular or thinner bodies. Depending on their build some can eat meat while others can only eat fruits and vegetables. For example the more muscle a Starseed may have the more inclined they are to eat protein or meat, while the thinner the build the more likely the person is to eat vegetables and fruit. Height and features can vary. Rarely do sight, smell, taste and sound become sensitive, sometimes making it difficult for them to function, many learn to manipulate the energy in their body to help them lower the sensitivity. (and only one sense changes)

Starseeds are always born human, to human parents, their abilities do not become active until the age of 18 when they have their awakening & DNA Activation as the scientists call it. It is possible to have an early or much later awakening but it rarely happens.

World:

Terranova can be considered to be an alternate version of Earth with very few differences in between like region.The world is run by a one world government (like any government, it could be run better), with 12 politicians at the head of the government running the world. With the appearance of the starseeds people became fearful, and like with any threat or something unknown the people lashed out violently. For many years the starseeds were dealt with harshly, putting them into labs to experiment on, or into encampments to keep them separated from humanity.

Even though many starseeds had psychic abilities to help them avoid being captured, many did not know how to control their abilities and to show goodwill and that they still had a bit of human in them, they went with the authorities without a fight. Some encampments were not as bad as others, depending on the countries and areas they were in, for example, in the Eastern region, people did not agree with the mistreatment of the starseeds and even believed the starseeds were the new humans being born for the next evolution of humanity, otherwise known as ascension. Many voted against the Encampment Plan, or any establishment that lead to imprisoning starseeds and experimenting on them. Of course once the bill was passed the people had to comply, but these particular establishments in India did not mistreat the starseeds compared to how they would be treated in the Western Expanse, where they would be experimented on and sometimes psychologically harmed.

Not all humans agreed with how the starseeds were treated but change is a slow process and racism towards these new beings was still strong. After some time humans fought for the rights and freedom for the starseeds which eventually the world heard and the government finally abolished all laws pertaining to the segregation and experimentation of the starseeds, giving them full rights as a living breathing being. Schools were created for those who needed to control their abilities, as the people tried to find a way to understand humanity's Ascension. Suspicions and treatment of her kind has died down some what, but many people have gone to boycotting the schools created to help the Starseeds control their abilities.

History:

Thorn used to live in the Western Expanse where the mistreatment of Starseeds was the worst; even though it had been 30 years before her birth she could still feel the effects it has left on the people and places she’s been too. As a child Thorn was a regular child who lived in a happy home with her mother, father, and little brother. Her parents had lived through the Starseed Age as teenagers and saw the effects it caused the people; though her parents did not agree with how the starseeds were treated they did not fight for their rights. As a child Thorn was a huge tomboy who enjoyed getting into fights, especially when it came to defending someone’s honor. As she grew older Thorn was considered a well known scrapper on the streets, her mother highly disapproved but her father was more approving of her actions. Better for her to scare the piss out of the men then have have them get any ideas.

Eventually Thorn decided to find work as a person who retrieves items, whether stolen or hidden, and depending if they are human or object. Most of the jobs were considered fairly innocent, such as a finding a missing cat, or finding a missing locket. Eventually Thorn’s 18th birthday came around and during that night, sleeping in her own bed, Thorn awoke to an odd fluttering sensation in the middle of her stomach that flowed like lukewarm water to the top of her head and bottom of her feet. Without warning her body caught fire, instantly lighting up the bedsheets and pillows, and in time the bed. With a scream that woke up the household, the flaming blaze that encompassed the whole of Thorn's body burned brighter, and hotter catching everything in her room on fire until the only thing visible was a sea of flame.

The bedroom door ripped open giving Thorn a split second for her eyes to connect with her little brother's, behind him she could see their parents running towards them, screaming for the teen to get out of the way. Thorn lifted a hand to warn him away but a raging fire immediately rose up and instantly blasted him past his parents and into the wall behind them. The shock of what just happened immediately caused the fire to dissipate, shouts and screams came from her parents as they kneeled in front of the burning corpse trying to stop the fire. Thorn was too frozen in place to go to them and only watched as they put out the fire and held the dead boy in their arms, her mother rocking back and forth with her father's arms wrapped around them.

They both looked up accusingly at the young woman who could feel her heart falling into a dark pit into her stomach; unable to take what just happened Thorn grabbed the sides of her head and screamed causing a blaze to once again to consume her. That night her parents escaped with heavy hearts at the loss of their children. Thorn was given to the School for Gifted Abilities, to help her control her powers, and her parents moved away, making it perfectly clear that the death of her brother was on her hands, and that they wanted nothing to do with her.

Thorn with the help of a master pyrokinetic, would eventually climb out of her depressing misery, taking his advice to bury the memory until it was time for her to face up to it. Until that time came, Thorn would hide behind a smiling mask, keeping her tough girl attitude. After spending 3 years at the school, Thorn graduated and gave herself the name Retriever and worked full time doing dangerous jobs, from stealing objects, looking for lost items or treasure and kidnapped people. She spent 4 years as Retriever, and at time would wonder about her parents but was too afraid to look for them. (After 7 years of her awakening Thorn has not aged)

Personality:

Thorn is a very self confident young woman who handles serious situations with humor and can’t stand it when people get overly gloomy and emotional; especially becoming uncomfortable and unsure of how to handle people who cry. She hides behind a grin and always seems to portray contentment; behind the mask however, is a very vulnerable young woman who is afraid of hurting the people she cares about accidentally. Thorn enjoys a good fight especially one that’s evenly matched, abhorring cheating and disloyalty. At first she may come off as a bit selfish and brash on many levels but when someone is truly in need of help, Thorn will put in every effort to help the person. Thorn does not appreciate being used, lied to, or manipulated, and holds those who can be honest in higher respects.

Abilities/weapons:

Primarily as a fighter Thorn takes the “Smash first, ask questions later” approach when it comes to dealing with enemies. She is not a very tactful fighter and relies on her brute knuckles and speed to take down an enemy. Thorn uses her pyrokinetic ability combined with her fists to add double the damage to the opponent. She’s also able to coat her hands and feet with fire, using the energy to propel her punches and kicks faster.

Healing Flame: A flame that burns white, and burns away any sort of pain and infection, helping heal whoever it is applied to. The bigger the wound the more the energy she would have to use and the bigger the strain on her body. This is one of Thorn’s most rarely used and controlled abilities. The fire must be concentrated upon, to the point it becomes white, and light enough to heal. If the concentration is lost, Thorn can easily burn the person she attempts to heal or herself.

Plasma Dragon: A ball of concentrated fire that is shot within a range of 60 ft it takes on the head of a vicious dragon that consumes all in it’s path that can be avoided if timed correctly. Once the attack finds it’s target, it proceeds to melt them or burn depending on the material or person. This is a last resort attack that uses all of Thorn’s concentration and energy leaving her too weak to stand on her own. After the attack Thorn will faint and will need time to recuperate usually a whole days of sleep will help restore her and even then if she isn’t careful she would tire herself out.

Heightened Sense of Smell: Thorn’s sense of smell was heightened due to her Awakening, causing her to be able to smell at a distance of a mile or less if the scent is stronger. Sometimes incense can override her nose causing her to faint or become dizzy.

Courageous Cheer: Thorn creates small balls of harmless fire to boost everyone’s confidence up in battle, helping restore minor stamina, strength, health and dexterity. She encourages everyone in her party lifting their spirits.

Additional Info:

When Thorn first arrived in Selendris she met a kind Sage who helped her get on her feet and eventually find work.

Thorn can be emotionally triggered to remember her past if a big incident with fire occurs. This causes her to doubt herself, and her actions. she’ll lose concentration which can in turn cause her to misfire accidentally. If forced to remember Thorn cuts herself off from everyone retreating into her mind. (she’s an emo deep down 8D)

When fighting another person with the same element both elemental attack cancel out.

If fighting another person with water then the opposite element will trump Thorn’s fire.

Incidentally, Thorn can usually be won through her stomach; she especially loves unhealthy cookies and cake. Her regular diet consists of fruits and vegetables only, and she hates the smell of cooked meat. She developed a rare occurrence where her sense of smell became sensitive, being able to smell a dog take a dump a mile away.
